Homeowner Profile: Meet Donna and Chris Barnhill

At Woods Design Builders, our clients quickly become our friends. Every home is as unique as the families we build them for, and we love chronicling the journey of each project. Most recently, we completed a full remodel and expansion of a 43-year-old, 3,400 square foot, Pueblo-style home in the heart of Santa Fe for Donna and Chris Barnhill.

A Note from the Barnhills on Building With Woods Design Builders:

We had lived in our home for over three years and have always had the intention to update and expand.  The property is beautiful but the home was dated.  There were a number of changes we wanted to make in order to transform it into our dream home.

The original kitchen was small and nonfunctional for the size of the home. It also had the potential to capture stunning views of the nearby Sun and Moon Mountains to the east.  Before the remodel, the view was non-existent. Now, the remodeled kitchen opens up into a hearth room with a kiva fireplace and expansive windows facing to the mountains and a paved courtyard. Without a doubt, the most stunning feature of our house is a custom, Old World, hand carved pantry in the kitchen that replicates an antique Spanish furniture piece.

Before the remodel, there were two bedrooms upstairs, including the master.  We moved the master bedroom downstairs and added the amenities of a traditional master suite. The former master bedroom was transformed into Donna’s art studio with an additional window added to capture the Sangra De Cristo mountain views to the north. Another bedroom was transformed into an office with custom cabinetry. All of the bathrooms and our laundry room were completely renovated. Now, we have a larger more functional space with all of the rooms to accommodate our guests and our lifestyle.

From the beginning of this process we knew we wanted Sharon Woods to remodel our home but we did our homework and interviewed other builders.  We quickly realized that Woods Design Builders would confidently execute our vision.
